Two articles published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) have brought attention to Merck & Co.’s role regarding how their painkiller Vioxx was approved and remained on the market. JAMA alleges Merck drafted research studies and recruited experts to ghostwrite the reports. A second article suggests the drugmaker selected the data about mortality risks.
