
AEterna Zentaris, a Canada-based biotech, announced it has completed enrollment of some 400 patients, mostly in Europe, for its second Phase III clinical trial of their experimental drug Cetrorelix, a treatment for non-cancerous prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia).
The company, which specializes in endocrinology and oncology treatments, said it planned to report the first results from the trial by the third quarter of 2009.
The trial - looking primarily at the safety of the treatment - is part of a bigger study involving 1,500 patients in Europe and the U.S. Cetrorelix is a luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) antagonist.
The market currently includes Boeheringer Ingelheim´s Alna, GlaxoSmithKline Plc´s Avodart, Sanofi-Aventis SA´s Xatral and Merck & Co´s Proscar.
