Irving, California based-Allergan was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration to market Latisse a solution to treat Hypotrichosis, the first drug to make eyelashes longer, darker and thicker. The main compound is the same as Lumigan, to treat glaucoma since 2001. The solution will compete in a $3.700 million dollar market. The drug is given once a day with an applicator and full results occur after 16 weeks of use. The suggested price is $120 for a 30-day supply. The drug known as bimatoprost, has been approved since 2001 and its brand name is Lumigan. However as an eyelashes solution the drug was discovered in 1996 by an ophthalmologist that started to use it on a patient in order to grow its eyelashes, he patented his invention and licensed its product to Allergan. On December 5th the FDA’s Dermatologic and Ophthalmic Drugs Advisory Committee voted positive on the use of the drug in certain patient groups by 9 to 0. Publish comment:
