ASA 404 Drug did not Meet Phase III Clinical Objectives in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

British biotechnology Company Antisoma Plc. announced that their experimental drug ASA 404 did not meet late stage-stage trial objective, as it did not showed any survival benefit in patients previously treated with non-small cell lung cancer drugs.

British biotechnology Company Antisoma Plc. announced that their experimental drug ASA 404 did not meet late stage-stage trial objective, as it did not showed any survival benefit in patients with previously untreated non-small cell lung cancer drugs.

The drug belongs to a family known as TVDA (Tumour-Vascular Disrupting Agent), works by disrupting the flow of blood to tumours 

The drug was being developed jointly with Novartis AG, and was to be filed for regulatory approval during 2011. The Swiss company said they will evaluate cthe drug´s overall clinical programme, that was also under study for prostate cancer.

Three years ago, Novartis paid 125 million dollars for ASA404, soon after the drug was previously rejected by rival Roche .
