Joint License Agreement by AMAG Pharma and Takeda to Market Anemia Drug, Feraheme

Biotechnology AMAG Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Japanese Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., announced a jointly agreement to market iron deficiency anemia drug Feraheme (Ferumoxytol) in adult patients with chronic kidney disease. The drug was approved back in June 2009.

Biotechnology AMAG Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Japanese Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., announced a jointly agreement to market iron deficiency anemia drug Feraheme (Ferumoxytol) in adult patients with chronic kidney disease. The drug was approved back in June 2009.

The product was approved last June 30th. 2009 and was exclusively licensed to Takeda for all therapeutic indications throughout five regions that include Europe, Canada, Turkey and some Asia-Pacific countries (not in Japan, China and Taiwan).

AMAG will receive an upfront payment of 60 million dollars, with the possibility to receive up to 220 million dollars if sales and regulatory objectives are achieved.

The drug had sales of 15.8 million dollars, during 2009.
