At the American Society for Clinical Oncology Congress (ASCO) that took place in Orlando, Florida, british GlaxoSmithKline Plc. presented clinical dato on experimental Armala (Pazopanib) drug indicated to reduce tumor progression or death by 54 percent in advanced kidney cancer patients. The drug, also known as GW 7860334, showed that in pivotal Phase III study that enrolled 435 patients with advanced kidney cancer, or renal cell carcinoma, who had either received no prior drug therapy or had been given cytokine-based treatment, compared to placebo, that the global rate of response for general population of the study was 30 percent during 59 weeks. Pazopanib, is a selective multi-targeted receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor of VEGFR, the time without tumour growth or death was 9.2 months compared with 4.2 months for those on placebo.Armala, is being currently compared in a head to head study with Pfizer cancer drug Sutent (Sutinib). Also in Phase III is being tested for breast cancer and in Phase II is also been investigated for recurrent ovarian cancer and non-small lung cells cancer. In Phase I the product is under research for cervical cancer an soft-tissue sarcoma. The product was presented for FDA approval in December 2008 and at the EMEA beginning 2009. |
